As your child's paediatrician, Dr M Wakeel Mathure is here to help you and your baby from the very moment they enter the world. Dr Mathure recommends to all expectant mothers that he be present at their child's delivery.
Being present at the birth allows Dr M Wakeel Mathure to complete a comprehensive assessment of your newborn immediately. This comprehensive exam includes checking all vital signs such as temperature, heart rate, breathing rate and birth parameters such as weight and head circumference.
The role of the first assessment at delivery is to ensure that your baby is healthy after birth and provide emergency care for babies that may need a little more help transitioning into the world.
It is a requirement that a paediatrician is present at all caesarean section deliveries. If you request Dr M Wakeel Mathure to attend your baby's delivery, notify your gynaecologist and all other maternity staff when you arrive at the hospital.
For those who deliver naturally, Dr Mathure can assess your baby shortly after delivery and ensure that your newborn is doing well for the duration of your hospital stay.
When it is time for you and your baby to go home, Dr Mathure will provide you with a follow-up plan for your baby to ensure that they reach all milestones in their first year.
